What makes a Karnot heat pump different from a conventional one?

Karnot exclusively uses natural refrigerants — R290 (propane, GWP 3) for heat pumps and CO₂ (R744, GWP 1) for refrigeration. These have no PFAS pathway, are not subject to EU F-gas phase-down or REACH restriction, and routinely deliver COP 4.0–5.0 in Philippine tropical conditions. Conventional HFC equipment (R32, R410A, R454B) is being progressively restricted by European regulators because of its PFAS degradation products.

Which Karnot product is right for my site?

The shortest answer: tell us your load. For hot water and process heat — iHEAT R290 (residential, light commercial) or iHEAT CO₂ (industrial, above 90°C). For cold storage and refrigeration — iCOOL CO₂ transcritical. For commercial air conditioning — iHEAT reversible or iCOOL chilled water with iZONE fan coils. For solar with storage — iVOLT plus iSTOR thermal batteries (much cheaper per kWh than lithium for thermal loads). Most projects are a combination — we size to your actual measured load profile, not to a brochure.

Can Karnot products be paired together?

Yes — the product range is designed to integrate. A typical integrated install is iVOLT (solar plus LiFePO₄ battery) feeding iHEAT (R290 heat pump) charging iSTOR (PCM thermal battery) delivering hot water and space heating through iZONE (hydronic fan coils), with iCOOL handling refrigeration and Permafrost banking chilled water for HVAC peak-shaving. The whole solution is sized behind the meter to one design intent.

Are Karnot products certified for international markets?

Yes. The iHEAT R290 range is MCS HP0304 certified for the UK market and eligible for the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant (£9,000 for oil and LPG households from July 2026). All Karnot product lines carry CE marking for the European market and are engineered to EN 378 (refrigeration safety) and IEC 60335-2-40 (heat pump safety).

Are Karnot products suitable for tropical Philippine conditions?

They are engineered for them. R290 heat pumps deliver COP 4.0–5.0 in Philippine ambient (28–35°C) — the same equipment in Europe drops below 3.0 in winter, because the heat pump has less work to do when the air is already warm. iVOLT batteries use LiFePO₄ chemistry chosen specifically to be safe at high tropical ambient. iCOOL CO₂ refrigeration is designed for high gas-cooler temperatures. iSTOR PCM batteries are non-flammable and unaffected by tropical heat.

Why thermal storage instead of lithium battery storage?

For sites whose load is heating, cooling, or hot water (most industrial and commercial sites in the Philippines), storing energy as heat or cold directly is typically 5–10× cheaper per kWh than storing electricity in lithium and converting it back. No rare earths, no fire risk, no chemistry that degrades, and no thermal runaway concerns at high ambient. The iVOLT LiFePO₄ battery handles the electrical loads; iSTOR and Permafrost handle the thermal loads. Each storage technology is matched to the load it serves.

Does Karnot provide site survey, design, and installation?

Yes for engineering and design. Karnot sizes the solution to your actual measured load profile, provides full mechanical and electrical drawings under PRC PME and PEE sealing, and supports commissioning and ongoing performance verification. Physical installation is delivered through a PCAB-licensed mechanical and electrical contractor partner so the customer gets a single accountable project team.
