The Role

Karnot installs and services commercial natural refrigerant heat pump systems across Luzon and Visayas. Every system that leaves the factory needs to be properly installed, vacuumed, pressure-tested, charged, and commissioned on site — and then maintained throughout its service life. The technicians in this role are the people who make that happen. This is hands-on, field-based work that demands real competence. It is also some of the most technically interesting refrigeration work in the Philippines.

R290 (propane) and CO₂ are natural refrigerants with Global Warming Potentials of 3 and 1 respectively — the best available refrigerants for the climate. Working with them requires specific training because R290 is Class A3 flammable and CO₂ transcritical systems operate at very high pressures. Karnot invests in that training for every technician: UNEP/ASHRAE accredited hydrocarbon refrigerant training is fully funded and provided as part of onboarding. You will leave Karnot with qualifications most refrigeration technicians in the Philippines do not have.

Salary ranges from ₱28,000 to ₱35,000 depending on experience, with per-diem and hazard allowance paid for every site travel day. The role involves approximately 70% field work across project sites.

What Karnot Offers

About This Role — Common Questions

Is TESDA NC III really required, and how do you verify it?

Yes, it is a hard requirement. Karnot verifies all TESDA certificates directly on the TESDA Registry of Certified Workers at tesda.gov.ph before any offer is made. NC II will not be accepted for this role — the commercial refrigeration and heat pump work Karnot does requires NC III competency level. If you are an NC II technician with strong experience, consider applying to the Operations Centre Analyst role instead while working towards NC III.

What does R290 training involve?

R290 (propane) is a Class A3 flammable refrigerant. The UNEP/ASHRAE accredited training Karnot funds covers: refrigerant properties and hazard classification, safe storage and handling procedures, leak detection and emergency response, Ex-rated tool requirements, brazing and pressure testing procedures specific to hydrocarbon systems, and personal protective equipment. Training is typically 3–5 days and results in a recognised certification. You keep that certification regardless of how long you stay at Karnot.

How much field travel is involved, and where?

Approximately 70% of working time is on-site. Projects are primarily across Luzon — Pangasinan, NCR, CALABARZON, Pampanga, Ilocos. As the project pipeline grows, Visayas sites (Cebu, Iloilo) will be added. Away-from-home nights are covered by per-diem. Karnot provides transport for all site travel — technicians are not expected to use personal vehicles for work.

Is CO₂ refrigeration more dangerous than R290?

Different hazards, not more. CO₂ (R744) is non-flammable and non-toxic, but transcritical systems operate at up to 130 bar on the high side — much higher than conventional refrigerants. CO₂ can displace oxygen in confined spaces at high concentration. Karnot provides CO₂ system-specific safety training as a separate module from R290 training. Both refrigerants are safe when handled with the correct procedures, which is exactly what the training covers.
