How accurate is the hotel heat pump calculator?

The calculator is indicative-grade. It uses a fixed COP of 4.5 for Karnot iHEAT R290 in Philippine ambient (28-32°C), grid carbon intensity of 0.712 kg CO₂/kWh (DOE PH 2026), 365 operating days, and standard hot-water demand of 180 litres per occupied room per day. Pool adds 8% load (hotel pool) or 18% (resort + spa); on-site laundry adds 22%. Real numbers come from a free site audit on your specific property.

What does the calculator output mean by 'payback period'?

Simple payback is the time required for cumulative annual savings to recover the upfront capital cost of the equipment. The calculator uses an indicative ₱22,000 per kW thermal capex figure and divides by the annual fuel-cost saving. Real payback depends on your specific quote, BOI incentives if confirmed, and your discount rate.

Are BOI tax incentives included in the calculator's payback?

No. The payback figure shown is gross — before any BOI fiscal incentives. RA 11285 (the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act) establishes a framework for BOI incentives on energy-efficiency capex, but the specific package depends on the project profile and is confirmed by BOI on a case-by-case basis. Karnot supports the registration paperwork as part of standard project scope.

Why does the calculator default to LPG as the current fuel?

LPG is the most common hotel water-heating fuel in the Philippines, followed by diesel boilers and electric resistance. The calculator lets you switch between LPG (₱6/kWh of heat delivered), diesel (₱7.20/kWh), electric resistance (₱12.10/kWh) and an aging heat pump at COP 2.5 (₱4.85/kWh). The aging heat pump option is for hotels already running R410A units that are losing efficiency.

Why is the calculator only for Philippine hotels?

The default tariff (₱/kWh), grid carbon intensity, fuel costs and ambient operating temperatures are all calibrated to Philippine conditions.
